Our Sheriff - Eldon Fancher
On July 1st 1994 Sheriff Eldon Fancher was elected to his first four year term as Sheriff of Ohio County. Presently Sheriff Fancher is on his fourth term and plans to retire at the end of 2014. Fancher worked twenty five years as a building contractor before becoming Sheriff.
Chief Deputy - John R. Roberts
Ohio County's Chief Deputy is John R. Roberts. John was hired as a deputy in 2002, and was appointed to Chief Deputy in 2010. John brings an extensive background in the field of investigations and leadership to Ohio County. John is focusing on Community Relations, Traffic, Alcohol, Drug Use Awareness in our Youths, and Sex Offender compliance in our community. John Feels these topics are relevant to the overall quality of life in our community.
Ohio County doesnt have a jail at this time. Most inmates are housed in Switzerland County.
Ohio County was originally a part of Dearborn County. In 1845 Ohio County broke off from Dearborn County and became its own County seat, holding an election in 1844 to select people to fill the different positions in the courthouse and other County offices.
